Nearshore to Colombia with the Right Outsourcing Partner

Nicknamed the “Gateway to South America” due to its convenient location, Colombia’s shared services and outsourcing sector has been consistently growing in the last 10 years and become a top choice for North American companies seeking cost-effective access to top talent under the same time zone.

Colombia provides our clients access to the third largest workforce in Latin America, enriching Auxis’ nearshore platform initially started in Costa Rica in 2010. With over 25 years of shared services experience in the country, Auxis opened its Global Delivery Center in Colombia in 2021 to continue expanding our capabilities across all service lines, including Finance & Accounting, HR, IT & Software Development, Customer Service, Intelligent Automation, and more.

With the third-largest BPO market in Latin America, Colombia ranks first for availability of skilled talent on the IMD World Talent Ranking – offering a diversified talent pool with five cities with over 1 million habitants and 15 cities with more than 500,000.

Auxis’ main country hub is located in Barranquilla, in addition to operations in Bogotá, Medellín, and 16 other locations to maximize our access to the best talent based on the specialties and strengths of each city.

Characterized for its warm culture, strong customer service orientation, prestigious universities, robust infrastructure, and increasing focus on raising English proficiency, Colombia has earned the recognition as a top destination for both BPO and IT outsourcing services by multiple research firms including Kearney, Tholons, among many others.

Colombia ranks #1 globally on the Offshore BPO Confidence Index, surpassing India, Philippines, and other traditional outsourcing destinations.

The Colombia Difference

Why Colombia is a Top Destination for North American Businesses

At a time that global labor markets are tighter than ever, Colombia ranks #1 in LATAM for availability of skilled talent on the IMD World Talent Report – also a key reason Colombia ranks #1 on the Offshore BPO Confidence Index. With the third-largest workforce in Latin America, Colombia offers potential for scalable business operations in six metropolitan areas with 1 million+ inhabitants and 15 with 500,000+. Auxis provides instant access to this deep talent pool, with our high-performance outsourcing platform recognized annually on IAOP’s elite Outsourcing Global 100 list and named a “Major Contender” on Everest Group’s Finance and Accounting Outsourcing (FAO) PEAK Matrix® Assessment.

Our Colombia teams ensure outsourcing doesn’t sacrifice performance, bringing the certifications, industry accreditations, and deep experience supporting transactional to complex, high-value functions. Colombia’s workforce is trained by one of LATAM’s best higher education systems, with three universities among the top 10 in Latin America and top 500 globally on the QS World University Rankings. With a strong work ethic inherent to the Colombian culture, graduates take pride in performing back-office work that American Millennial/Gen Z employees typically consider beneath them – driving high consistency, performance, and low attrition rates.

Outsourcing to Colombia drives agility and innovation, with time zone compatibility enabling real-time collaboration and communication with North American enterprises. Nicknamed the Gateway to Latin America, Colombia also offers convenient, direct flights to most major U.S. cities from its El Dorado Airport, ranked by Skytrax as the #1 airport in LATAM and #35 worldwide. Auxis service delivery centers are strategically located in Colombia’s two biggest BPO talent growth markets – Barranquilla and Medellín, according to the country’s BPO association – offering clients access to robust infrastructure, free trade zones, and major universities that produce a large, highly educated talent pool annually.

Ranked #11 in the world on Kearney’s global services location indicator, Colombia offers an ideal combination of talent availability, attractive business environment, digital capabilities, and the lowest labor costs in the region. It delivers average 30-60% savings as U.S. companies face rising salaries back home due to talent shortages. Not surprisingly, Colombia’s BPO market has averaged 16%+ annual growth, making it the fastest-growing BPO sector in LATAM, according to Invest in Bogotá. The country’s ITO market is also booming, expected to achieve nearly 14% annual growth over the next five years.

Colombia’s government aims to make Colombia the most educated country in Latin America by 2025 – and strengthening English proficiency is a primary goal. About 1.6 million Colombians speak fluent English with a neutral accent, with Barranquilla the first city in Colombia to mandate that public schools become 100% bilingual. More than 56% of Colombia’s outsourced services are delivered in English, according to EY data, with the U.S. the biggest recipient of BPO, KPO, and IT exports. Colombia also offers strong multilingual capabilities, with service delivery available in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

Colombia’s government is deeply committed to ensuring a steady flow of talent for critical business functions. For example, government programs offer scholarships to students pursuing IT-related careers that cover as much as 80% of the costs. As a result, Colombia’s higher education system produces an average 535,000+ graduates annually, with more than half achieving STEM degrees. The number of finance-related degrees is also expanding by an average 13% annually – more than any educational area, according to Invest in Bogotá.

Cultural differences contribute to the failure of more than 70% of international ventures, according to a Business Standard report. Colombia’s geographic proximity and common European root drives close alignment with U.S. culture, work approach, and overall values – enabling efficient communication and easy rapport that allow Auxis to function as a true extension of your team. With more than 200 foreign organizations operating across the country, Colombia also offers deep familiarity with North American business practices – supporting the professional judgment integral to quality service delivery.

Ranked by KPMG as a top 5 country for investment in LATAM, Colombia ranks third in Latin America on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business report. It aggressively pursues foreign investments through tax incentives, Latin America’s second-highest number of free trade agreements, and other hiring and investment benefits. Colombia – and particularly, Medellín – are leading tech hubs in LATAM, attracting a solid network of incubators and investment funds. With a young, tech-savvy workforce eager to embrace new technologies, Colombia delivers quick access to highly qualified resources with specialized skillsets like intelligent automation, analytics, and cybersecurity that can be difficult or expensive to hire at home.

Nearshoring to Colombia provides a stable platform for connecting to global markets and supporting a hybrid workforce, with a modern telecommunications infrastructure and LATAM’s second-highest number of submarine fiber optic cables supporting fast data transmission, excellent connectivity, and 100% redundancy. With the government continuously investing in infrastructure projects, Colombia has also been a leader in adopting new technologies like cloud computing.

Colombia earned a confidence rating of 87.8% for public security on the Offshore BPO Confidence Index – proving that any lingering negative perceptions about safety due to its previous history are fading. The Index indicated “high or full confidence” that visitors would experience no safety issues in Colombia, singling out Barranquilla as one of the safest cities. Colombia has also been aggressive on cybersecurity, becoming one of the first countries in the world to enact a law focused on access to personal information, data interception, and the use malicious software.
