MIAMI - November 20, 2009 - The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles ("DHSMV") recently released a revised "Drive with CARE Guide for Parents and Teens." Auxis, a South Florida based Management Consulting and Outsoucing Firm, was selected by the DHSMV to assess the value of the Guide and provide recommendations to make it more effective for both teen drivers and supervising adults.
"Auxis developed a presentation which was extremely helpful for the parents in understanding their roles and the driving laws," said Sandra Lambert, Driver License Director for the DHSMV. "Auxis assisted us in improving the overall effectiveness of this critical Guide."
The comprehensive Guide offers advice and guidance on how to teach teens proper driving techniques. Auxis collected its data by implementing a series of surveys and focus groups with teenage student drivers and their adult supervising participants at high schools in Miami-Dade County. The focus groups were conducted before and after driving sessions were held, wherein the students and adults recorded their practice driving activities and reported back on their experiences.
Based on the results of the surveys and focus groups, Auxis presented its recommendations to the DHSMV on how to enhance and update the Guide to make it more effective for both students and adults. Recommendations included:
| |
- Create a Skills Master Checklist to highlight key driving skills that help students understand the steps involved in learning to drive
- Provide more relevant information to students and adults on best practices for teaching and learning to drive, such as:
| |
- Practice Driving Tips for Adults
- Teen Driving Facts and Figures
- Common Driving Mistakes
- A Pre-Start Driving Checklist
- A Driving Safety and Maintenance Checklist
- A Driving Log to record practice driving activities that make it easier to monitor the
performance of the student drivers, as well as the road and weather conditions in
which they practice
- A sample Driving Rules Contract between Student Drivers and Adults
- Driver Courtesy tips
